August 26–28, 2026, 2026 Particleboard The Industrial Innovation and Development Symposium was successfully held in Rizhao, Shandong.

Lü Bin, Director of the Wood Industry Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry (hereafter referred to as the CAFF Wood Industry Institute), along with Deputy Director Guo Wenjing; Zhou Hongsheng, President of the China National Forest Products Industry Association; Wu Xiaosong and Qian Xiaoyu, Chief Experts of the Association; Li Dongyan, Secretary-General of the Association, and Ge Hong, Director of the Membership Department; Zhang Zhongtao, Director of Division One for Ecological Industry Planning at the Industrial Development Planning Institute of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration; Yu Lefei, Senior Engineer at the same institute; Xie Xiaoman, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Shandong Academy of Forestry, as well as Director of the Shandong Branch of the CAFF Wood Industry Institute; Ma Hailin, Vice President of the Shandong Academy of Forestry; Tang Zhaoqun, Director of the Information Center of the CAFF Wood Industry Institute; Chang Liang, Director of the Wood-Based Composite Materials Laboratory; Xu Jiahe, Director of the Achievement Promotion Department; together with more than 350 experts, scholars, and enterprise representatives from across the country engaged in the production, processing, scientific research, management, and sales of particleboard and related products, convened under the theme “Seizing Opportunities for a New Start and Addressing New Challenges.” They held an intensive discussion on the development prospects and challenges facing the particleboard industry in the context of the new landscape marking the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

At the opening ceremony, chaired by Researcher Guo Wenjing, Deputy Director of the Woodworking Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, speeches were delivered in succession by Zhuang Jie, Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Lanshan Economic Development Zone in Rizhao City, Shandong Province; Researcher Xie Xiaoman, Director of the Shandong Branch of the Woodworking Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Shandong Academy of Forestry; Researcher Lü Bin, Director of the Woodworking Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry; and Zhou Hongsheng, President of the China National Forest Products Industry Association. They all extended their congratulations on the successful convening of the conference and expressed high hopes for the future development of the particleboard industry in the context of the industry’s evolving landscape. Li Dongyan, Secretary-General of the China National Forest Products Industry Association, then read out the list of representative new products in the particleboard sector for the 2025–2026 period. Following this, Wu Xiaosong and Qian Xiaoyu, chief experts of the Association, presented certificates to representatives of the organizations that had introduced these new products.

During the invited‑speaker session, chaired by Researcher Chang Liang, the discussion focused on the high‑quality development and transformation and upgrading of the particleboard industry. The distinguished guests addressed the development opportunities currently facing the sector from multiple perspectives, offering a wealth of valuable recommendations on pressing issues, persistent challenges, and future directions. Their insights provided attendees with crucial guidance and fresh perspectives for navigating the new landscape and emerging challenges in the particleboard industry.

During the keynote session, chaired by Associate Researcher Gao Li of the Woodworking Institute at the Chinese Academy of Forestry, attendees shared insights and engaged in discussions on a range of topics, including breakthroughs in robotics and AI technologies for engineered‑board production lines, end-to-end sorting solutions for wood recycling and reuse, iterative advancements in veneer‑finishing processes, the current state of China’s particleboard import and export trade, and the research and application of lightweight, high‑strength particleboard. These presentations provided a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in the particleboard industry—spanning technological innovation, market dynamics, and green development—offering valuable technical guidance and practical experience for industry professionals.

During the guest interview session, moderated by Yu Lefei, a senior engineer at the Industrial Development Planning Institute of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and Tang Zhaoqun, Director of the Information Center at the Woodworking Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, 12 corporate guests engaged in an in-depth discussion around two core themes: “Particleboard Technology and Management” and “Particleboard Products and Applications.” Drawing on their practical experience, the guests shared keen insights and distinctive perspectives on technological innovation, management upgrades, product development, and market applications within the particleboard industry. They also conducted a thorough analysis of the opportunities and challenges currently facing the sector, calling on leading companies to assume a pioneering role, pool resources for collective progress, and jointly address existing difficulties. Furthermore, they put forward targeted, actionable recommendations addressing key areas such as equipment modernization, efficient raw-material utilization, cost control, quality management, technological advancement, and the expansion of application markets.

Following the conference, delegates visited Rizhao Lanshan Port in Shandong Province, as well as the particleboard and building‑component production lines at the Rizhao Ausiborn plant of Qiannianzhou New Materials Technology Group Co., Ltd. They conducted on-site inspections of leading enterprises’ particleboard manufacturing technologies, equipment, and regional and logistical advantages, gaining a more direct and in-depth understanding of the synergistic effects between logistics and industrial development, as well as the current state of particleboard production technology and management. These visits also helped create favorable conditions for the industry to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation and achieve coordinated development.

As the industry enters the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the particleboard sector is at a critical juncture marked by accelerated structural restructuring and a drive toward higher quality and advanced development. Faced with intensifying supply‑demand imbalances, rising product‑standard thresholds brought about by the implementation of new national standards, as well as evolving technological advancements and shifting market demands—new circumstances that present both challenges and opportunities—the event brought together experts, enterprises, and representatives from across the industry’s upstream and downstream value chain. Through the sharing of specialized knowledge, the dissemination of cutting‑edge insights, and in‑depth discussions, it offered forward‑looking perspectives and viable solutions to address the sector’s structural bottlenecks, strengthen the resilience of its industrial and supply chains, and translate resource and production‑capacity advantages into drivers of high‑quality growth. It also established an important platform for industrial collaboration and cooperative development. Participants unanimously agreed that the particleboard industry should further reinforce innovation‑driven development, quality enhancement, green and low‑carbon practices, and expanded applications; by fostering collaborative partnerships, it can bolster its competitive edge and propel the sector into a new phase of more advanced, intelligent, environmentally friendly, and sustainable growth.

This symposium is hosted by the Institute of Wood Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, and co-organized by the Wood-Based Composite Materials Laboratory of the same institute and Qiannianzhou New Materials Technology Group Co., Ltd. It is also supported by the Strategic Alliance for Technological Innovation in the Wood and Bamboo Industries, the Shandong Branch of the Institute of Wood Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, the Particleboard Industry Innovation Alliance, Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd., and Linyi Jiangyuan Decorative Materials Co., Ltd.
